The sick building syndrome (SBS) causes occupants of a building to experience acute health- or comfort-related effects that seem to be linked directly to the time spent in the building. Sometimes dizziness, fatigue, concentration difficulties, and irritation of eye, nose, and throat can be caused by a lack of fresh air. No specific illness or cause can be identified. The complaints may be localiz

CIMR (Continuous Infectious Microbial Reduction) is a patented system that reduces airborne and surface pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, mold, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Unlike passive filters, CIMR works in real-time, actively purifying the air around the clock.

Continuous Infectious Microbial Reduction Torchlight Minority Small Business Incubator (TMSBI) will serve as a designated site within the Community to provide a comprehensive workforce training program that improves building quality while creating meaningful job opportunities for residents. This initiative will introduce participants to CIMRTECH, building science, indoor air quality solutions, airflow control, HVAC systems, radiant heat, and modern approaches to healthier living environments. By combining state-of-the-art property management practices with community-based development expertise, the program will support the Community in becoming a more self-sufficient, resident-empowered facility. TMSBI will also establish a CIMR apprenticeship pathway, connecting residents with career positions through partner companies and certified installation teams. In addition, trained CIMR technicians will collaborate with local energy-efficiency partners and small contractors to expand skills into related fields such as weatherization, building auditing, and sustainable maintenance. Together, these efforts will create a specialized workforce and deploy trained residents across the Community to improve conditions and help eliminate Sick Building Syndrome, ensuring a healthier, safer place to live.

CIMR and Torchlight are developing an apprenticeship system for specialty roles, including 50 Indoor Air Quality Technician (IAQT) positions, to strengthen workforce development within the Energy (Building Sciences) sector. By partnering with training providers and small businesses, the program will help employers build a skilled, loyal workforce, improve productivity and efficiency, reduce training costs and liability, and potentially access tax credits. Apprentices will benefit from a combination of classroom and hands-on training through CIMR, gaining advanced skills, wage growth opportunities, and expanded career pathways within the energy and construction industries.
